My recent experience in NYC was magical. I was in the right place at the right time with the right people.
When it comes to ceramics, this happened at BKLYN CLAY WEST in Manhattan.
I managed to book some last-minute lessons at this unit, which is not very usual, and I was lucky enough to meet Smriti Kapuria, a talented artist, ceramicist, and teacher. My teacher!
We met two days in a row, but we spent only four hours together. So, in a few minutes, I told her my experience and tried to get to the point of what I was looking for.
Smriti understood precisely what I was looking for and brilliantly showed me the basics from an entirely different perspective.
This movement was already happening within me, but I wasn't getting the correct input in Brazil for some reason.
She helped me reconnect with my essence in ceramics. Although we have yet to see the results of the pieces we made together, she certainly guided me toward the type of work I want to do from now on.
I even came back to Brazil and found in some old works the simplicity and beauty that I was looking for, but somehow, I was unable to see it due to the enormous amount of information and circumstances of our everyday lives.
It taught me how important it is to get a distance from our work to analyze it better.
I have no words to describe what this encounter and many others meant for my career and life during these weeks. I'm so grateful to have been taken to the right places. ;)
